
An old company brings comfort to Yuma with a renewed Faith
In the late 40's Jack Culver came to Yuma to start a business installing air conditioning and heating systems in homes, businesses, MCAS and YPG. In those days the old York water cooled towers were used and lots of industrial and commercial systems were installed for the military. Then in 1960 Manual (Dick) Bowling came to Yuma from Michigan to work for Jack as a service technician. When Jack wanted to retire he sold the business to Dick in 1967. Michael Bowling, Dick's son, came to work for his dad in 1970 and joined the union as an apprentice technician. The apprenticeship in the union lasted 5 years before becoming a journeyman. Mike was responsible for installations of new cooling and heating systems, duct work, and service of all kinds of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. He helped with installing the old Safeway store on 10th street and 4th ave. As well as numerous jobs at MCAS, and the Yuma Proving Grounds. Over the years Culver Refrigeration, as it was called then, has installed Southgate mall, Penny's, Sears, Yuma Regional medical center 3 floor and the new emergency room, just to name a few. Mike has been servicing and installing equipment for Lockheed Aerospace at MCAS, Naval air station in El Centro, Baker peak outside Tacna, and various other locations in the desert as well as hundreds of homes in Yuma and Imperial counties. In 1980 Mike purchased the company from his dad so Dick could retire. Mike has been there ever since. Mike's dedication to serve is summed up in his own words: I purchased this business with the sole understanding that it was to be one of God's works. I have been a Christian since I was 12 years old always believing that God's will is being done in my life. And now his will is being done in all those lives who depend on Bowling Refrigeration. You see I have dedicated this business to God and believe deeply that it all belongs to him. I am simply a manager for him. It is my prayer every day that God's will be done for us all. As a servant of God I know that I cannot control the destiny of this business, nor can I predict the outcome. All I do know is that God loves us all and wants to help us in our lives. So success is a part of God's plan if and only if we attribute that success to Him. I cannot do anything without God's help. My mission as I hope is yours too, is just this: As I serve in this life and this business, God's will be done, to care for those we serve and help in their needs. As a servant of God we must allow Him to bring success to us all and our families. Prayer will be our tool to God's will; And our humility will be God's tool to His and our successes. When I purchased the Company from my dad I had envisioned a business where our employees would enjoy working at a truly honest company that would provide the best service in Yuma. Unfortunately this industry is driven by low price. I saw all kinds of poor work going into peoples homes and business's because low prices breed in poor quality work. Sell it and install it as fast and as cheaply as possible to keep the prices low. Poor installs cause higher electric bills, as much as 40% higher, and shortened life expectancy, as little as 5 years (just after the warranty runs out). I was forced into the same mind set every time I bid a job. Low prices also didn't help my bottom line. I didn't have enough money to provide the good services I wanted to give. So after a few years of struggling, the Lord showed me a way to sell quality at the best prices possible. This in turn helped our customers achieve the highest return on their investment by giving them a unit that lasted longer and pulled much lower electricity. Also to insure high quality I was able to set up a training program for all our personnel and provide a future for all our employees. Now we have over 800 service agreement customers where we maintain residential home units. We have specialists who perform, I feel, the best precision tuneups and professional cleanings around. Even some of our competitors recommend us due to the great value and detailed performance. Our installations of new air conditioning and heating units are done by real craftsmen, led by Margo Hernandez and Dino Sanchez. They take the time to do it right. Since we install with such superb craftsmanship, we can give warrantees almost unconditional, accept for floods, fires and such. Our customers don't have to worry about anything we have installed even if the customer made a mistake and forgot to clean their filter. Manufacture warrantees will not do that. Having faith in God is what brings us success. We must push forward with all the tools given us, trusting in God's deliverance for what we need and most of all what his will is for us. As Christians we love, and as servants we care and do, and as children of God we are obedient to Him. Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, ............you can say to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. So, it looks like Bowling Service of America is led by a greater power and is here to stay, built on Faith and the willingness to serve................
